EzCAP USB Video Grabber Review

EzCAP Video Grabber Reviewed by XboxStation.net

First of all there are few clones and different version of ezcap or easycap, so watch out before buy it or ask questions first.

When I receive it , the name on the device was EzCAP not EasyCAP as advertise, I mail the shop and got reply saying this is the latest dc60+ not dc60 .

Apparently the dc60 which is old doesn’t support pal 60 but the latest dc60+.

The box content:

  • ezcap device
  • usb extension very useful if your pc not near your TV
  • installation guide which is fine
  • software and driver, ulead include for video capture and editing.

We used windows vista 32bit pc for the test.

After installing drivers everything went ok but I cannot get audio to play back correctly.

The capture appz which came with it Amcap is a bit buggy and we couldn’t make any capture with it.

Premiere pro on the system already couldn't detect it,
Win movie maker didn’t detect it as well but few online read confirmed win. movie maker xp works but not vista.

Since premiere cannot detect it, I installed Ulead and it did detect it fine.

Recording is easy and good quality.

From Xbox 360:

- We have to set the output to ntsc 433 on ulead to get colour although we using pal system, then switch the Xbox to TV instead of hd and set the Xbox display to widescreen.

- We used for recording DVD high quality ntsc widescreen which come out as mpeg.

From PS3:

- In ulead we set options to pal b to be able to get colour and then change the ps3 display setting to non hd and same setting as Xbox 360 output though changing ntsc to pal.

Pal output as 720 by 576 and ntsc 720 by 480 both ws.

We couldn’t get the capture to work when the output is set to avi uncompress; only mpeg and the rest work on Ulead.

EzCap Review

I use Premiere for editing and after imported the mpeg to premiere the audio didn’t came through, premiere only import the video and a blank audio so I need to demux the mpeg , for that I use dgindex to demux the mpeg to m2v and wav then import in premiere for editing.

In vista while capturing, the audio playback is really bad but surprised the output video and audio are fine so I guess that have some to do with my drivers not the device.

Quality of video is good not perfect but very good.

All in all it does what it says on the box and for less than 20 bucks, you can’t really go wrong.
If you want to watch on the TV at the same time while capturing then you need some extras component like splitters, which is really easy?

Ezcap can’t record HD or even detect HD signal, so to be able to capture from X360 or PS3 you have to play in SD which sucks, that’s the drawback but if you want to play HD and record SD then look for an alternative choice like Hava Platinum.

We only test Ezcap with Xbox 360, PS3 with Vista 32bit; in future we will be updating this page to reflect any new findings and XP system testing.
